If you are affiliated with a participating institution, the Italy transformative agreement means you can publish your article open access (OA) with the fees covered, in more than 2,000 journals across the 91ÁÔÆæ portfolio.
More than 60 institutions are participating in the transformative agreement between 91ÁÔÆæ and CRUI-CARE, meaning that corresponding authors* affiliated with participating institutions are eligible to publish their articles open access with fees covered. From January 2026, this also includes Nature and the Nature Research journals for a select list of institutions.
In addition, you can enjoy full access to all Springer subscription journal content.

The OA publication service for the CRUI-CARE Springer Transformative Agreement has reached its maximum article allowance. This means the agreement is no longer covering OA publishing fees until further notice.
Please refer to covered under this agreement to find out whether your journal is affected.
The option to publish OA via Springer Author Choice is still available to affiliated authors, but the publishing fee will not be covered under this agreement. Authors should use alternative funding sources in order to publish OA or proceed with publication under subscription until the agreement is reactivated.
